This barrier chiefly impacts the youth of the Marshall Islands, who often lack access to educational platforms where they can engage with their musical heritage. Elders, who are crucial in passing down these traditions, find it increasingly challenging to connect with the younger generation. As cultural expressions diminish, the continuity of Marshallese traditions faces jeopardy, affecting community cohesion and the transmission of identity.

The funding aims to mitigate these cultural challenges by investing in initiatives that promote intergenerational workshops focused on traditional music. By bringing together elders and youth, this initiative will foster connections that facilitate learning and appreciation of local music styles such as the "Marshalls" and "Mokajy."
